Biography of the author

Amma Darko was born in Koforidua, Ghana, on June 26, 1956, and she grew up in Accra. She studied in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, and gained a diploma in 1980. She worked with a Technology Consultancy Centre in Kumasi.

SETTING

The novel is set in Accra Ghana, and places inside Accra like Sodom and Gomorrah and Agbogbloshie market.

 

THE PLOT

The story of children left to roam the streets is narrated in Faceless. It shows the very bad things that can happen to children who are neglected, and who take their hate into their own hands without being ready for such adventure.

 

The novel highlights details about Poverty, child abuse and neglect, defilement of girls, issues about gender, child prostitution, single parenthood, child labour and child trafficking; rape, violence and the dividends of a failed government.

 

MUTE, a non-governmental organization, attempts to investigate the death of a child prostitute called Baby T whose battered body was found beside a Rasta hair salon kiosk in a slum. Fofo, Baby T’s sister helps the NGO to unravel the events behind her sister’s death.
